Great Lakes Home Remodeling Named a 2026 BBB Torch Awards for Ethics Finalist

Great Lakes Home Remodeling has been named a finalist for the 2026 BBB Torch Awards for Ethics, the highest honor the Better Business Bureau gives a business. The recognition comes from BBB Serving Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan, the chapter that covers our Toledo headquarters.

What the Torch Awards Actually Measure

Most awards in the home improvement industry measure output. Revenue, job counts, installation quality, square footage. Those matter, and we have chased them. The Torch Awards measure something else entirely: whether a business behaves honestly when nobody is auditing it.

The BBB created the Torch Awards for Ethics, formerly the Integrity Awards, to recognize organizations that put integrity into practice rather than into a mission statement. Judging looks at how leadership sets ethical expectations, how those expectations reach frontline employees, how a company treats customers when something goes wrong, and how it engages the community it operates in.

That last part is worth sitting with. An ethics award is the only kind you cannot win by being good at roofing.

Why This One Matters to Us

Home improvement is an industry with a trust problem, and every honest contractor pays for it. Homeowners have heard the stories: the deposit that vanished, the crew that stopped showing up, the warranty that evaporated when it was needed. Most people getting three quotes for a roof are not just comparing prices. They are trying to figure out who is going to still be there in five years and who is going to answer the phone.

Being evaluated on ethics by a third party, and reaching the finalist round, is a direct answer to that question. It is not our marketing department saying we are trustworthy. It is the organization homeowners already use to check on contractors.

The Torch Awards nod also lines up with recognition we have earned on the workmanship and customer satisfaction side this year, including Qualified Remodeler naming us a 2026 Customer Satisfaction Leader on the strength of a 94 percent independently surveyed recommend rate, and back-to-back GAF President's Club Awards in 2025 and 2026.

Craftsmanship, customer satisfaction, and ethics are three different tests. We would rather pass all three than dominate one.

What Homeowners Can Take From This

If you are comparing roofing, siding, or window contractors across Toledo, Cleveland, or Detroit, third-party recognition is worth more than a testimonial page, because the company being evaluated does not control the outcome. Before you sign anything, look up the contractor on BBB, check the rating, and read how they responded to complaints. The response tells you more than the rating does.
